Although we came up short, a lot was learned. Airport had the upper hand defensively. We put balls in play all game but they made a lot of great plays and played clean. I though battled hard in the box, landing with only 4 strikeouts on the day, and ran into a couple crucial outs at home to end some possible rallies. But we are not that far off. And we hope to rebound off this and make our adjustments.
Huron Varsity Chiefs fell to Airport 6-1 on Thursday.
Huron Varsity Chiefs opened the scoring in the second after Sartin doubled, scoring one run.
Airport captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the third after Baker grounded into a fielder's choice, Duffy grounded out, and Huron Varsity Chiefs committed an error, each scoring one run.
Kuzara stepped in the circle first for Huron Varsity Chiefs. The pitcher surrendered nine hits and six runs (five earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out three and walking none. Martin opened the game for Airport. The pitcher allowed eight hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking none.
Shore, Sartin, and Robbins each collected two hits for Huron Varsity Chiefs. Sartinled Huron Varsity Chiefs with one run batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-2 on the day.
Martin drove the middle of the lineup, leading Airport with two runs batted in. Tilley led Airport with four hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Zajaccollected two hits for Airport in three at bats. Tilley stole three bases. Airport stole seven bases in the game. Airport turned one double play in the game.
